Toilet Paper Game

Materials

A roll of toilet paper

Directions

Hold up a roll of toilet paper and inform group that it will be passed around and each person may take off as many or as few sheets as they like. After each person in the group has taken their share, break the news to the group that for each sheet they took, they have to tell everyone something about themselves. For example, for four sheets a student might relate the following: #1) My name is Maria, #2) I have a cat named Bingo, #3) I like to play basketball, #4) My favorite color is purple.”

Reflection
  • How did you feel when you realized what the squares of toilet paper meant?
  • How easy was it to share information with everyone? Why?
  • What new or interesting information did you learn about your classmates?
  • Why might we want to learn more about one another? What does this have to do with being a class?
Possible Side-Coaching

“Take a moment to think about the different kinds of things you could share about yourself.”
“What else does the group want to know?”

Possible Variations/Applications

You can use M&Ms or other edibles. If you use the toilet paper, you might ask everyone to place their used sheets in a box or basket, then talk about how much you have learned about one another during the game. (The large number of squares is a metaphor for the amount of info we learn about each other in a short amount of time.)
