Two Revelations

Everyone gets a partner. Once the group has divided into partners and the pairs have found their own space in the room, each pair decides a relationship they would like to explore. (Examples: Parent/Child, Brother/Sister, Two friends.) The pair also decides what age are the two characters, where the scene will take place, and who will enter the scene first and who will start the scene. Each character should also think of a secret that if exposed, to his or her partner, would change the relationship between the two characters. Each pair in the group will be acting simultaneously. The scene begins by the pairs speaking to one another as his or her characters. This dialogue can be a conversation that the character believes would occur between these individuals in the particular relationship the pair has decided on. Once the pairs have spoken in their partners for a few minutes, the facilitator then calls out, “One of you make the first revelation.” At this time, one of the characters reveals his or secret and the other character reacts to the secret in a way that the character feels would be appropriate given the weight of the secret as well as the relationship between the two characters. The scene continues for a while until the facilitator then calls out, “Second revelation, go!” After the second secret is revealed, then the facilitator shouts “freeze, relax” and everyone comes together to process.
